Elm is a beautiful wood that once made up 60% of the American forest. Dutch elm disease nearly wiped it from the continental United States with scattered resistant trees barely holding on. Except for in Portland, where the mountains interrupted the flow of the disease and elms and their beautiful burls line the streets.
